Swagata Purkayastha, Ph.D., J.D., LL.M., is an associate at the firm with more than six years of patent related experience. Her practice focuses on all aspects of patent prosecution, opinion work and client counseling in a variety of technology areas, including chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, nanotechnology, and cosmetics. Swagata also has significant international experience.  She is admitted to the Bar Council in India and has prior experience of more than a decade in interdisciplinary research at the cross-section of Chemistry, Biochemistry, Immunology and Molecular Biology.

Before joining the firm, Swagata worked as an associate for another local law firm where she was involved in patent procurement and related opinion work on patentability, infringement and freedom-to-operate.  She also interned for the Honorable Jimmie V. Reyna at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

In addition to her professional interests in science and law, Swagata has a number of varied interests in music and the visual arts and is an accomplished dancer trained in the Indian Classical dance form of Odissi. Swagata is multilingual with native fluency in Hindi and Bengali.
