History
& Philosophy
Oliff & Berridge was established
in January 1983 with a commitment to providing the highest quality,
personalized and prompt intellectual property legal services. At
Oliff & Berridge we maintain a client-centered approach -
dedicated to handling each client matter as we would want it handled
if we were the client. We achieve this through close working
relationships with our clients, which are characterized by clear,
frank and prompt communications.
We represent a large and diverse
group of domestic and international clients, including major
universities and businesses ranging from large multi-national
Fortune 200 corporations to smaller privately owned companies and
individual entrepreneurs. We tailor our services to suit the needs
and style of each client. This includes traveling worldwide several
times each year to meet with our clients, who are also welcome to
visit our offices at any time.
In our 27th year, 2010, we continue
our growth with the support of our clients by repeatedly fulfilling
our commitment to quality, communication and timeliness - day by
day, project by project. From four attorneys and a total of 13
staff in 1983, in response to the needs of our clients and with
their support, the Oliff & Berridge team today comprises nearly
80 professionals, including the 13 members and a total staff of
about 200 people. We continue to provide the full spectrum of
intellectual property legal services from procurement to counseling,
including patent application preparation and prosecution, opinions,
licensing, litigation, and dispute resolution.
In an annual national
ranking of intellectual property law firms based on the number of
issued U.S. patents, Oliff & Berridge routinely ranks among the
top five firms in the country. In a 2001 ranking of
intellectual property law firms representing the world's fifty
largest companies, Oliff & Berridge was ranked first in the
category of U.S. Patent Prosecution Counsel, and tied for first in
the category of U.S. Prosecution and Litigation Counsel. In a
2004 analysis of patent quality, Oliff & Berridge was ranked
among the top 10 firms in the country for patent quality in each of
chemical patents, electrical patents and mechanical patents.
